Technician Training
Pharmacy technician training might be challenging,
but it is definitely worth it. This is because it gives you
the skills necessary to work in a pharmacy at the fast pace
that it requires. Especially during busy periods and peak
hours, where you might find you have to process a large
quantity of requests all at the same time, how well you
perform under stress, will be a direct reflection of the
type of training you have undergone. As a result, pharmacy
technicians are becoming part of a very specialized field in
the pharmaceutical industry, which is why there are more and
more opportunities available today.
In the past, most pharmacists would have taken care of all
the duties associated with the administration of
prescription drugs, with the exception of busy periods.
During these periods where the pharmacist would require
extra help, he or she often simply requested the help of
another employee of the store, who would then take
directions from the pharmacist. However, this always proved
to be a challenged because the individual assisting the
pharmacist, often had to deal with demanding patients, an
extremely large inventory of drugs and prescription
medication, as well as having to process many different
prescriptions and requests all at the same time. This is
why, in recent years, the role of the pharmacy technician
has become a specialised field that requires training and
skill development.
Once you sign up for pharmacy technician training, you will
immediately be taught to act autonomously, with very little
guidance or direction from the pharmacist during your period
of work. This is why it is very important to do well during
your technician training course, as your results will be a
direct reflection of your level of competency. Pharmacists
will also be looking for individual who are confident, and
are able to manage the administration of prescription drugs
effectively, without breaking under the pressure and stress
that comes with processing many different prescription
requests.
After you complete your pharmacy technician course and after
you have begun work as a pharmacy technician, you will find
that the training does not end there. Some pharmacies send
you for skills upgrading classes, which update you on the
latest development in pharmaceutical processes and products,
keeping you up to date with current trends in the industry.
Also, some countries require you to attend pharmacy
technician certification every two years, so as to ensure
that you are able to do your job effectively.
Some might consider these constraints relatively strict,
however, the truth is that there is a lot of responsibility
that a pharmacy technician carries, especially since he/she
is always handling a large quantity of drugs. There have
been cases of pharmacy technicians making mistakes when
processing different prescriptions, resulting in an
erroneous prescription. What seems like a small mistake, at
times, can blow up to become very big news. This is because,
as a pharmacy technician, it is extremely important that you
give patients the correct drugs, otherwise their health
might be at risk. However, this can be easily prevented with
